Key Points

Pneumonia

  • High volume of calls to SOS Médecins for pneumonia compared to previous years.

Bronchiolitis

  • Activity outside of the epidemic season remains low. Detection of RSV remains low according to the virology laboratories at the Brest and Rennes University Hospitals.

  • Other viruses capable of causing bronchiolitis are circulating, notably rhinoviruses.

  • Maternal vaccination and infant immunization with monoclonal antibodies are two alternative prevention strategies against RSV bronchiolitis.

Influenza

  • Non-epidemic activity, very low. Seasonal surveillance resumed in week 40. Sporadic detection of influenza A virus according to data from the virology laboratories at the Brest and Rennes University Hospitals.
