COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of September 1, 2022

In week 34, virological indicators remained stable at a low level, reflecting a relatively calm epidemiological situation in French Guiana. The incidence stood at 51 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the effective R was 0.83 [0.70–0.97]. This situation was observed across all regions of French Guiana. Hospital indicators also reflected this situation, with 6
new hospitalizations across all departments and none in intensive care.

Among the samples screened in French Guiana, 89% tested positive for mutations carried by the Omicron variant. Among the samples sequenced over the past 4 weeks, 80% were BA5, which is therefore the predominant sublineage in French Guiana.
