Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of August 28, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 6,491 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 6 imported from French Polynesia, Brazil, Thailand, and Myanmar) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 among locally acquired cases is DENV-2 (911 genotypes identified). This situation follows an unusual, low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-33 (data from August 13 to 19):
12 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located: - In the west: St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (4 cases), St-Leu (2 cases), La Possession (1 case), Le Port (1 case), - In the south: St-Pierre (3 cases),
