Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Update as of June 15, 2022.

Key Points

  • After exceeding 100 cases in weeks 13 and 16, the number of new dengue cases has been declining sharply since week 17;

  • Reunion has remained in an inter-epidemic period since the beginning of the year;

  • The southern region is the area most affected by dengue this year. It accounted for 60% of cases during weeks 21 and 22;

  • The number of emergency room visits is stable and significantly lower than the previous year (309 visits in Week 22 of 2021 vs. 11 visits in Week 22 of 2022);

  • 57 hospitalizations have been recorded since the start of the year. This is 15 times fewer than in 2021 (878 hospitalizations);

  • Only the DENV-1 serotype is circulating in Réunion;

  • The positivity rate for May 2022 was less than 4%;

  • No dengue-related deaths have been reported;
