Influenza Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of January 30, 2014.

Epidemiological Summary

The 2013 flu season was marked by a moderate-scale epidemic in June and July caused by the co-circulation of three influenza viruses: A(H1N1)pdm09, non-H1N1 A, and B. However, a significant number of severe influenza cases were reported, with 18 people hospitalized in intensive care, 7 of whom died. Most of these patients were unvaccinated, even though they belonged to the target populations for vaccination.
