Seasonal outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Réunion. Epidemiological update as of October 12, 2012

Epidemiological Situation

Following an increase in medical activity for gastroenteritis observed by surveillance systems during August and September 2012, the situation appears to have stabilized during the first week of October. However, case numbers remain significantly higher than seasonal averages, and young children continue to be the most affected population. According to virological surveillance, this increase is primarily linked to the circulation of rotavirus on the island.
