Health Impact Assessment in the Pays-de-la-Loire Region: What Lessons Can Health Promotion Stakeholders Learn?

In the Pays-de-la-Loire region, two urban renewal programs in Nantes-Saint-Herblain and Angers, as well as the flood prevention program on the island of Noirmoutier, were subject to a health impact assessment (HIA). A team of researchers analyzed the implementation process of the HIA approach and its effects. While there is not yet enough hindsight to fully assess all the long-term results, HIAs have already made it possible to incorporate health considerations into some of the policies that determine the population’s health status: urban planning, housing, transportation, and public services. The initial results are encouraging.
