Key Points

  • Since January 1, 2019, 155 cases of measles have been reported (compared to 404 cases during the same period in 2018).

  • 2,652 cases reported over the past 52 weeks, i.e., between February 12, 2018, and February 10, 2019.

  • The highest incidence of reported cases was among children under 1 year of age: 32.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • 24% of reported cases were hospitalized.

  • 89% of measles cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals.

  • 3 deaths occurred in 2018.

  • 90 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.

  • An outbreak of 25 community cases is currently underway in Val Thorens (provisional data), with cases spreading to other regions and countries (two cases already reported by Belgium and Scotland).

  • In the Indian Ocean: 10 cases recently reported in Mayotte, with a high risk of spread due to insufficient vaccination coverage and vulnerable populations, and 27 cases in Réunion with a resurgence of local transmission following imported cases.
