The Health of Middle School Students in France/2014. French data from the international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey. Romantic Relationships and Sexuality

Key findings: The proportion of students reporting sexual activity in 8th and 9th grade remains moderate (1 in 10 and 1 in 5, respectively) and has been declining slightly since 2010; very early sexual activity (before age 13) remains rare (1.7% on average in 8th and 9th grades over 2010–2014); the majority of students can be considered protected against pregnancy during their most recent sexual encounter (86.1% reporting use of a condom and/or birth control pills), though this proportion is lower among those reporting very early sexual activity; contraceptive use appears to have declined slightly since 2010 among middle school students.
