Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update for February 1, 2022.

Key Points

  • Nationally, based on INSEE data, the number of deaths from all causes has stabilized over the first three weeks of 2022 but remains significantly higher than the expected number of deaths from week 47 through week 03. The number of electronically certified deaths also increased slightly in week 04.

  • All adult age groups are affected by this excess, particularly those aged 65–84 since week 29 of 2021.

  • An excess of deaths was observed in 6 metropolitan regions in week 02 of 2022 and 5 regions in week 03 of 2022 (unconsolidated week), as well as in Réunion and French Guiana during the first 3 weeks of 2022.
