Effective Interventions for Preventing Alcohol Use Among Youth: A Review of the Evidence - Key Findings.

This document is a summary of the report *Validated Interventions for the Prevention of Alcohol Use Among Young People*, produced by INPES. The purpose of this summary is to provide public health officials and practitioners with an overview of interventions whose effectiveness has been validated through scientific protocols. To ensure comprehensiveness, effectiveness, and rigor, this review was conducted using a method developed at INPES in 2010 to select and analyze scientific literature in order to identify and classify relevant interventions. Nearly 30 interventions were thus identified as having an impact on alcohol consumption among young people. More than half of them are aimed at the general population, while the others target vulnerable groups. Together, they cover the entire span of child development, from early childhood through to adulthood. Some of the interventions are unimodal: they are implemented in school settings, or involve either the family or the community; others combine two, or even all three, of these modalities. Many programs focus specifically on young people’s psychosocial skills. Finally, interventions addressing alcohol availability are also presented for their effectiveness. Knowledge of these intervention approaches, widely used internationally, should enrich the discussion on practices developed in France.
