Medical management of conditions related to excessive heat.

Heat places a strain on the body, and prolonged exposure to heat leads to deaths, primarily among the elderly. The individual then dies because their natural defenses are overwhelmed and unable to maintain their body temperature. During heat waves, high temperatures can lead to so-called "minor" heat-related syndromes, conditions directly linked to heat, or exacerbate other pre-existing conditions. Identifying at-risk individuals and situations, as well as implementing preventive and protective measures to combat this stress, is therefore essential, since in the event of heatstroke, a delay in treatment can be potentially catastrophic. The authors present the various clinical presentations and an analysis of risk factors, knowledge of which is a prerequisite for effective management.
