Risky drinking among young people: protective and vulnerability factors.

Protective and vulnerability factors are now well established in the scientific literature. The most important protective factors are: family, a sense of belonging to the community, and adherence to shared values; self-confidence, the development of social skills, and the use of effective coping strategies. Vulnerability factors are deeply tied to the individual and their unique life history, and should not be reduced to a simplistic cause-and-effect relationship. Great caution is warranted, as none of these factors are guaranteed predictors.
