This study is guided by three questions: What is health education? What constitutes effectiveness in health education? and How can it be measured? An analysis of the international literature and initiatives carried out in France (information campaigns, individual or group-based interventions, community-level intervention programs) demonstrates the effectiveness of health education under certain conditions (duration, consistency, methodological rigor, ethics). The authors encourage health education professionals to continue their efforts to further improve their evaluation capabilities.
