Health behaviors among young people: use of psychoactive substances. Preliminary results (HBSC/WHO survey)

Since 1982, the Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC) survey has been conducted every four years in a growing number of countries and nations within the WHO European Region (29 in 1998), under the auspices of the WHO, among 11-, 13-, and 15-year-olds. In 1998, France participated for the second consecutive time. The main objectives of this international study are to better understand young people’s health attitudes and behaviors, as well as the processes through which they acquire them... The questionnaire explores various areas, including the use of illicit substances. This article presents preliminary descriptive results regarding the use of psychotropic substances—both legal and illicit—reported by French adolescents. The 1998 data are compared with those from the 1994 survey conducted by the same teams, using a comparable methodology and involving comparable populations. (adapted from the text).
