Coset-MSA: A National Study on Health and Occupational Risks in the Agricultural Sector

In the agricultural workplace, there are numerous exposures that can impact health (accidental risks, physical strain, pesticides, biological agents, psychosocial risks, etc.).

Santé publique France has established a national surveillance program—COSET (Cohorts for Health Surveillance and Work-Related Factors)—aimed at improving knowledge regarding health status and occupational risks in France.

It is within this framework that a national study on health and occupational risks was launched in late 2017, in partnership with the Mutualité sociale agricole (Coset-MSA), involving a sample of professionals affiliated with the Agricultural Social Security System (employees, farm operators, and assisting spouses) who were randomly selected and invited to participate via an online questionnaire. The Coset-MSA study plans to follow participants over several years to examine how health status evolves in relation to occupational factors over the long term. It aims to provide the most comprehensive picture possible of health status and the diversity of occupational situations in the agricultural sector. By identifying high-risk situations, the results will help better define prevention priorities and contribute to the implementation of dedicated programs.

The first results will be available starting in 2019. Additional results concerning other types of professionals (employees covered by the General Social Security System and self-employed workers) will also be produced and published as part of the Coset program.
