One year after the expansion of mandatory infant vaccinations, what do general practitioners think of this law and of vaccination in general? The College of General Medicine (CMG), in partnership with Santé publique France, asked them these questions and is now presenting the results of its survey at the 13th Congress of General Medicine, taking place April 4–6 in Paris. In February and March 2019, nearly 800 general practitioners responded to a survey conducted by the College of General Medicine and Santé publique France on their perceptions of vaccination and the expansion of mandatory vaccination. Nearly all of the doctors surveyed (99.6%) stated that they are generally in favor of vaccination. Among them, one-third reported having reservations about certain vaccines (33%): first, the rotavirus vaccine (24%), and second, the vaccine against human papillomavirus infections (22%). General practitioners were also asked about their own vaccination status, and the majority (86%) reported that they had received the flu vaccine this season. The expansion of mandatory vaccination requirements is viewed as a positive measure by three-quarters of general practitioners (75%). For 41% of general practitioners, the law simplifies their relationship with parents, while 46% believe it has not led to any changes. Information provided by public authorities and healthcare professionals to parents is now essential, as nearly half of the doctors surveyed report not having observed a decrease in parents’ reluctance since the new law was implemented.Vaccination remains the most effective intervention against many infectious diseases; this simple and indisputable fact will be at the heart of the communication efforts by public authorities and their partners during World Immunization Week, which will take place from April 24 to 30. General practitioners can make use of the tools provided by the College of General Medicine¹ and by Santé publique France as part of its campaign (posters, campaign brochures, and a catalog of other available materials). They can also visit the section for professionals on the vaccination-info-service.fr website, a leading resource on vaccinations that provides factual, practical, and scientific information. This "Professional Area," developed in collaboration with independent scientific experts, is designed to support professionals in their daily practice and help them answer their patients’ questions.
