Météo-France has placed the Eure and Orne departments under an orange heat wave alert from July 8 to 16, with the Orne department moving to a red alert from July 11 to 13. The other three departments were placed under an orange heat wave alert from July 10 to 13. The heat wave alert ended in Normandy on July 17, at which point all departments in Normandy returned to a green alert.
Between July 14 and 16, the final days of the heatwave, a moderate increase in emergency room visits related to the heatwave (hyperthermia/heatstroke, hyponatremia, and dehydration) was observed, reaching levels close to those of the previous week and comparable to those seen during the heatwave episode in late May 2026. This increase was more pronounced in the Eure and Seine-Maritime departments. Emergency room visits related to heat-related illnesses returned to baseline levels starting on July 19.
A peak in hospitalizations following emergency room visits for heat-related illnesses was observed on July 16, followed by a return to baseline levels.
Between July 14 and 16, SOS Médecins’ activity remained moderate, below the level observed the previous week.
All indicators of healthcare utilization remained at levels significantly lower than those observed during the heat wave in late June 2026.
