Key Points

COVID-19

Decline in the incidence rate (IR) and testing rate (TR), accompanied by a slower decline in the positivity rate (PR). The regional (gross) IR fell from 1,290.1 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 15 to 825.7 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 16. Decrease in IRs across all four departments: -417 points in Côtes d’Armor, -499 points in Finistère, -498 points in Ille-et-Vilaine, and -413 points in Morbihan. Decrease in general care hospitalizations, critical care hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and calls to SOS Médecins. Estimated vaccination coverage by place of residence stands at 84.5% for one dose and 83.7% for a full course.

Bronchiolitis

  • Non-epidemic activity. End of surveillance for this season.

  • Oscour®: Decrease in activity with 29 emergency room visits in Week 16 (compared to 41 in Week 15). Bronchiolitis accounts for more than 4% of diagnoses made in emergency rooms among children under 2 years of age, and 48% of these visits resulted in hospitalization.

  • SOS Médecins: slight decrease in activity with 7 consultations in Week 16. Bronchiolitis accounts for 4% of diagnoses in children under 2 years of age.

  • Virology data: The rate of positive RSV samples remained stable at a low level at the Virology Laboratory of the Brest University Hospital (CHRU), at 1% (5/501). Data from the Virology Laboratory of the Rennes University Hospital (CHU) are not available for S16.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Moderate activity. Continued decline in activity among children under 5 years of age.

  • Oscour®: continued decline in activity in emergency departments across all age groups in Week 16, with 174 visits (a decrease of 27.2% compared to Week 15) among children under 5 years of age. Gastroenteritis accounts for 7.6% of visits among children under 5 years of age (compared to 1.1% across all age groups).

  • SOS Médecins: The decline in activity for acute gastroenteritis was less pronounced at SOS Médecins, with 155 consultations for this diagnosis in Week 16 compared to 166 in Week 15. Across all age groups, acute gastroenteritis accounted for 5.8% of total SOS Médecins activity and 8.5% among children under 5.

  • Sentinelles Network: low activity in week 16: the incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice consultations was estimated at 97 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [44; 150]) (unconsolidated data).

  • Virology data: according to data from the Virology Laboratory at Brest University Hospital, viral circulation of Rotavirus (6/30, representing a positivity rate of 20%) and Norovirus (2/22). No positive samples for Adenovirus. Data from the Virology Laboratory at Rennes University Hospital are not available for Week 16.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • Epidemic activity. Very sharp decrease in calls to SOS Médecins and visits to emergency departments; the epidemic peak has been passed at the regional level and in all four departments.

  • Oscour®: 4th consecutive week of declining influenza activity in emergency departments with 79 visits in Week 16, all ages combined (a 64.6% decrease compared to Week 15). This activity represents 0.5% of total emergency department activity in the region.

  • SOS Médecins: Third consecutive week of declining influenza activity at SOS Médecins, with 183 consultations, representing a 49.6% decrease compared to Week 15. This activity accounts for 6.8% of the total activity of SOS Médecins associations in the region.

  • Severe influenza in intensive care: Since November 2021, 25 cases of influenza have been admitted to intensive care (20 type A, including 1 A(H3N2), 5 untyped).

  • Sentinelles Network: moderate activity in week 16; the incidence rate of acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases seen in general practice consultations was estimated at 232 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [132; 332]) (unconsolidated data).

  • Virology data: decrease in influenza A virus circulation according to data from the Virology Laboratory at Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 3.5%, 61/1,725). Data from the Virology Laboratory at Rennes University Hospital are not available for week 16.
