Health Monitoring in Brittany. Update as of August 24, 2021

Key Points

COVID-19

Stabilization of the incidence rate (IR) calculated based on PCR and antigen tests. The IR has dropped from 140 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 32 to 138 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 33. Significant variation is observed at the departmental level: +21 points in Côtes d’Armor, -18 points in Morbihan, -5.5 points in Ille-et-Vilaine, and stable in Finistère. Focus on the Côtes d’Armor. Also of concern, as the start of the school year approaches, is the population aged 0–15, for whom the positivity rate has been steadily increasing since mid-July without a corresponding increase in testing rates, leading to a slight rise in the incidence rate. In Brittany, 99% of screenings identify the L452R variant. Consequently, the identified clusters also overwhelmingly involve cases carrying this variant, particularly in nursing homes and at vacation destinations (campgrounds, summer camps, and vacation camps). Vaccination coverage stands at 77.8% for a single dose and 67.6% for a full course.

Extreme heat, heat wave

Finistère and Morbihan were placed under a yellow heat wave alert by Météo-France from July 19 to 22, 2021. Outside of this period, Brittany remained under a green heat wave alert. Activity was low, similar to previous years, excluding periods of extreme heat.
