In Alsace, middle school students are being strongly encouraged to get involved.
In the Bas-Rhin department, the ICAPS program to encourage physical activity was implemented in four middle schools. Students at these schools were compared to those at four control schools as part of a study. A total of 1,000 middle school students were monitored, 500 of whom participated in the program. In this initiative, unique in France, the adolescents were monitored over four years, and every effort was made to promote access to and the practice of regular physical activity in the “action” middle schools. The concrete results show that after two years, the proportion of middle school students who exercised regularly reached 87% in these schools, whereas it was only 62% in the control schools.
