Health Surveillance in the Grand Est Region. Epidemiological Update as of July 13, 2017.
Key Points
Enhanced Surveillance for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika
In mainland France, Aedes albopictus, known as the "tiger mosquito," is established in 33 departments. In 2017, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin were classified as Level 1 departments under the plan to prevent the spread of chikungunya and dengue in mainland France, due to the mosquito vector’s long-term presence. These departments are part of the enhanced surveillance system for chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in mainland France, which is active from May 1 to November 30 each year.
Between May 1 and July 7, 2017, three cases of dengue and two cases of chikungunya were confirmed in the Grand-Est region.
Asthma Surveillance
Emergency department activity related to asthma has been stable over the past two weeks. It falls within the range of variations observed at this time of year over the past two years.
For the SOS Médecins associations in the region, asthma-related activity is also lower than the levels typically observed at this time of year.
Allergy monitoring
Activity at SOS Médecins associations related to allergies is comparable to what was observed during the same period in the previous two years.
According to the pollen and allergy bulletin, the allergy risk from grass pollen is low in the departments of Moselle, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, and Ardennes. The risk is moderate in the region’s other departments.
Mortality Monitoring
As of July 11, the number of deaths observed over the past few weeks falls within the usual range of fluctuations.
