Epidemiological Situation of Dengue Fever in French Guiana. Update as of June 19, 2020.
Epidemiological Overview
Most of French Guiana has been in an epidemic situation for several weeks: the Maroni region (from Apatou to Maripasoula), the western coast (Saint Laurent, Mana, Awala), the Kourou region (from Montsinéry to Iracoubo), and the Cayenne Island region (Cayenne, Rémire, Matoury). The Oyapock region (Ouanary, Saint Georges, Camopi) is experiencing “epidemic outbreaks,” corresponding to Phase 2 of the dengue response plan. In the rest of the territory, only sporadic cases are being observed.
The total number of clinically suggestive and biologically confirmed cases of dengue in French Guiana has continued to rise in recent weeks. Visits to emergency rooms and hospitalizations for dengue are also rising sharply.
Two deaths were reported in May.
In the Maroni region, the spread of dengue appears to be declining, while the epidemic continues to rage in the major coastal urban areas.
