Epidemiological Situation of Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of September 25, 2020.

Epidemiological Situation

Most of French Guiana has been in an epidemic phase for several months, including the Maroni, Western Coast, Kourou, and Cayenne Island sectors. The Oyapock sector is experiencing epidemic outbreaks. The rest of the territory (the interior and the eastern coast) is currently experiencing sporadic cases, but a proposal to move to the epidemic outbreak phase will be discussed shortly. The number of new dengue cases in French Guiana has been declining for several weeks. The peak of the epidemic therefore appears to have been reached at the regional level. However, the trend in viral circulation shows regional disparities:

  • persistent residual circulation in the Maroni sector

  • a sharp decline in the western coastal sector

  • persistent intense viral circulation in the Kourou sector

  • declining in the Cayenne Island sector

  • stable in the Oyapock area

  • continuing to rise in the interior and eastern coastal areas, with numerous cases detected in Cacao in recent weeks
