COVID-19 and Winter Illnesses in the Hauts-de-France Region. Update as of April 22, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
High viral circulation in the region but declining in Week 15, linked to a sharp decrease in testing
Significant decline in incidence among those under 20 linked to school holidays; slight decline among those over 65
Positivity rate on the rise and at a very high level, particularly among those aged 30–59
Pressure on regional healthcare capacity remains at a very high level
Bronchiolitis
In S15-2022, the volume of cases for bronchiolitis, which remained at a moderate level, was decreasing in emergency departments. Due to a data transmission issue, data from three of the five SOS Médecins associations in the region have been unavailable since February 16. Data from the region’s other two associations have been successfully integrated but do not allow for conclusions regarding regional trends. The number of isolated RSV cases at the Lille and Amiens university hospitals remains stable and very low.
Acute gastroenteritis
In S15, emergency department visits for acute gastroenteritis (AGI), across all age groups, were decreasing. Due to a data transmission issue, data from three of the five SOS Médecins associations in the region have been unavailable since February 16 (Figure 28). The incidence of acute diarrhea estimated by the Sentinelles network was stable. The number of enteric viruses isolated in the laboratories of the Lille and Amiens university hospitals has decreased over the past two weeks.
Influenza and Influenza-Like Illnesses
Consultations for influenza and influenza-like illnesses in private practice and hospitals were significantly lower, likely due to school holidays. However, the circulation of influenza viruses and the level of activity remain high, at epidemic levels for the sixth consecutive week.
