COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of July 1, 2021

Key Points

In week 25 (June 21–27, 2021), the decline in epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 circulation continued in Île-de-France. However, these indicators remained at levels higher than the national indicators.

In Île-de-France, the regional incidence rate for Week 25 was 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, down from the previous week. The testing rate and positivity rate tended to stabilize in Week 25 in Île-de-France. Compared to other regions, the incidence rate in Île-de-France remained the highest, as did the testing rate. The positivity rate, meanwhile, was comparable to that of most other regions.

Visits to primary care for “suspected COVID-19” and visits to emergency care continued to decline in Week 25. The number of new hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients, the number of new admissions to critical care units, and the number of reported deaths in hospitals among COVID-19 patients decreased in Week 25.

At the same time, vaccination in Île-de-France continued to progress. As of June 29, 2021, vaccination coverage for at least one dose received stood at 48.9%, and at 31.3% for the full course. The vaccination coverage rate among the elderly, although high, was increasing only very slightly. It is therefore important to encourage vaccination among all individuals aged 18 and older, with specific measures to reach the elderly, with the goal of achieving a sufficient level of herd immunity.

In the context of the ongoing lifting of collective restriction measures, incomplete vaccination coverage, and the circulation of variants of concern, it is essential to maintain a high level of adherence to individual prevention measures, testing, and isolation of cases and at-risk contacts.
