COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Normandy as of August 6, 2021

Key Points

  • In Week 30 in Normandy, the situation continues to deteriorate, with a resurgence in hospital activity related to COVID-19.

  • Although at a slower pace, the regional incidence rate continues to rise. The increase is most pronounced in the Eure department (+43%, 99/100,000), but Calvados remains the department with the highest incidence rate (+7%, 206/100,000). Across the region, incidence rates remain high among age groups under 60, particularly among those aged 20–30.

  • At the same time, the number of new hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care is rising.

  • Against a backdrop of persistently high viral circulation, widespread transmission of the Delta variant, and a resurgence in Covid-19-related hospital activity, it is important to encourage vaccination for all eligible individuals, with the goal of achieving sufficient herd immunity and protecting the most vulnerable. It is also essential to maintain a high level of adherence to prevention and testing measures, contact tracing, and compliance with isolation protocols in the event of infection or contact with a confirmed case.
