Asthma Surveillance in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Update as of September 24, 2019.

Key Points

Every year, during the two weeks following the start of the school year, there is a spike in emergency care visits for asthma among children under 15.
In mainland France, the school year began on Monday, September 2, 2019; Santé Publique France conducts weekly monitoring based on data from the OSCOUR® and SOS Médecins networks.

Status as of September 24, 2019

In week 38 (September 16–22, 2019) in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the number of emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations for asthma among children under 15 decreased (by 24%, or 33 fewer visits, and 35%, or 28 fewer consultations, respectively).
Nearly 42% of visits were followed by hospitalization (stable compared to the previous week).
Nationally, following a sharp increase observed in week 37, the number of asthma-related visits among children under 15 in both networks has remained stable or even decreased.
