Surveillance of arboviral diseases in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Update: August 6, 2019.

In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, from May 1 to August 6, 38 imported cases of dengue, 4 imported cases of chikungunya, and 1 imported case of Zika were confirmed among 48 reports. No locally acquired cases were identified.
Cases of arboviral diseases were identified in 6 of the 7 departments at Level 1 (Table 1).
The countries of travel were Réunion Island for 10 cases, Thailand for 5 cases, and French Polynesia for 4 cases; the other cases had traveled to various countries in Asia, South/Central America, and Africa.
26 entomological surveys were conducted by mosquito control operators, and 9 vector control treatments (VCT) were carried out in 4 departments (Gironde, Dordogne, Landes, and Lot-et-Garonne).
In mainland France, from May 1, 2019, to August 2, 2019, 251 imported cases of dengue—31% of whom had visited Réunion Island—were confirmed, along with 30 imported cases of chikungunya and 4 imported cases of Zika.
A dengue epidemic is currently underway on Réunion Island, with more than 17,000 cases of dengue reported between January 1, 2019, and June 30, 2019. The number of confirmed cases continues to decline, a trend that began in mid-May.
