The Concept of Emerging Viral Diseases: What Is the Risk of Zoonosis for Réunion?
In Réunion, the risk of viral disease outbreaks stems from several viral zoonoses that require monitoring: infections caused by the Sindbis virus, Japanese encephalitis virus, Wesselsbron virus, Nipah virus, Zika virus, West Nile virus, and Rift Valley fever virus. Combating these emerging viral diseases (EVDs) requires early detection of cases and, therefore, a surveillance system equipped with a robust international information, alert, and prevention network.
