Health Monitoring in Mayotte. Update as of April 26, 2024.

Key points

Cholera

  • Since March 18, 2024, 14 cases of cholera have been reported in Mayotte (13 were confirmed by PCR and one probable case tested positive via Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT));

  • Of the 13 cases confirmed by PCR, 4 are locally acquired;

  • The nine PCR-confirmed cases and the case that tested positive via RDT were all imported from the Comoros or countries on the African continent;

  • An outbreak is currently underway in the Comoros, with a particularly concerning situation in Anjouan.

Dengue

  • The territory of Mayotte is currently experiencing the onset of a dengue outbreak, with 18 locally acquired cases identified;

  • All locally acquired cases resided in Petite-Terre.

Leptospirosis

  • From January 1 to April 21, 2024, 106 cases of leptospirosis were biologically confirmed, nearly double the 57 cases reported in 2023;

  • Among the cases reported in 2024, one death was recorded;

  • Since August 24, 2023, leptospirosis has been classified as a notifiable disease (ND).

Acute gastroenteritis (AGE)

  • An upward trend in sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) in sentinel pharmacies;

  • No new severe cases were admitted to intensive care in S16-2024.

Bronchiolitis

  • Post-epidemic phase since S13-2024 (March 25–31).

Influenza

  • No ongoing epidemic.
