Key points

Gastroenteritis

  • Post-epidemic epidemiological situation for the seasonal outbreak of acute rotavirus gastroenteritis (AG) since week 47.

  • Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) and non-adherent Escherichia coli (DAEC) have been identified in the majority of stool samples analyzed over the past 6 weeks.

  • Sales of anti-diarrheal medications and oral rehydration solutions (ORS) in pharmacies increased in week 49 to a level higher than that observed during the same period in 2014–2022.

  • Severe cases of GEA admitted to the intensive care unit at the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM): 22 cases between weeks 36 and 48, no new cases in week 49.

Bronchiolitis

  • Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has begun circulating at a low level; RSV is the primary cause of bronchiolitis. There were 6 positive test results in week 49, including 1 case hospitalized in the intensive care unit (positive rate: 1.6%, vs. 2 cases in week 48 [positive rate: 5.1%]). One RSV-positive case was hospitalized in Week 49 in the ICU.

Influenza

  • The positivity rate for Influenza A(H3N2) remains stable at a high level; the transition to the epidemic phase occurred in week 44. In total, 18 severe cases of influenza have been admitted to the ICU since week 36, including 4 in week 49.

COVID-19

  • Decrease in viral circulation since week 45; the positivity rate is 5% in week 49 (vs. 26% in week 45). Three severe cases admitted to the ICU in weeks 45 and 48.
