Seasonal outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Réunion. Epidemiological update as of December 10, 2012

Epidemiological Situation

The return of surveillance indicators to levels close to those observed outside of epidemic periods over the past several weeks indicates the end of the epidemic. Medical activity for gastroenteritis in emergency departments has remained stable over the past week and is at a level equivalent to seasonal averages. Furthermore, the proportion of consultations for acute diarrhea reported by sentinel physicians is declining, reaching seasonal average levels. According to virological surveillance, rotavirus circulation is waning on the island.
