Investigation of a Suspected Scabies Outbreak in Saint-Paul, Réunion, April–May 2007

An alert was received by the Health Surveillance Unit of the DRASS in Réunion regarding the occurrence of “a large number” of scabies cases in various schools in the municipality of Saint-Paul. This alert followed a report by a school physician on April 17 regarding the occurrence of scabies cases in four classes at an elementary school in Saint-Paul. On April 25, 2007, it was jointly decided by the Réunion DRAS, the Cire Réunion and Mayotte, and the school health services to conduct an epidemiological investigation. The emergency surveillance system put in place confirmed the existence of a scabies outbreak limited to a single school in the municipality of Saint-Paul. (R.A.)
