Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 29, 2021.
Key Points
COVID-19
In the Pays de la Loire region, the increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission observed since early January continues in S03, and hospital indicators continue their upward trend, already at a high level.
In terms of viral circulation, increases in incidence and positivity rates are continuing. These increases affect all age groups, particularly people over 75, who are at higher risk of severe illness.
The number of community clusters, as well as the number of reported Covid-19 cases in long-term care facilities (ESMS/EHPAD), has been higher since early January (Week 3 data currently being consolidated) compared to the end of 2020, across all departments.
In urban areas, SOS Médecins’ response to suspected Covid-19 cases stabilized in Week 3, while emergency room visits for this reason were on the rise in most departments. The number of hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients and admissions to intensive care units is also rising in Week 3 at the regional level. The number of deaths occurring during hospitalization for COVID-19 remains at a high level.
In Week 02, no significant excess mortality across all causes and all ages has been observed at the regional level so far (last week with significant excess: Week 50).
referenceGastroenteritis
An increase in SOS Médecins calls for gastroenteritis has been observed for three consecutive weeks across all age groups, while emergency room visits remain at low levels.
Bronchiolitis
The Pays de la Loire region is not currently experiencing an epidemic of bronchiolitis among children under two years of age. However, an increase in the number of RSV cases has been observed, and the number of medical consultations for bronchiolitis among children under two years of age has recently begun to rise but remains moderate for the time being.
