Key Points
COVID-19
In the Pays de la Loire region, the upward trend in SARS-CoV-2 transmission indicators, observed since mid-February, accelerated in Week 11 across all departments in the region. The proportion of suspected cases of the more transmissible variant of interest 20I/501Y.V1 (UK), which is more transmissible, also continued to rise in week 11, while the proportion of suspected cases of the 20H/501Y.V2 (ZA) or 20J/501Y.V3 (BR) variants remained stable and in the minority, though with regional variations.
Gastroenteritis
An increase in emergency room visits for gastroenteritis among children under 5 years of age began last week. SOS Médecins calls for gastroenteritis have remained generally stable since the beginning of 2021, staying at a moderate level and higher than the level observed at the end of 2020 across all age groups.
Bronchiolitis
This marks the fifth week of a bronchiolitis outbreak among children under two years of age in the Pays de la Loire region. There was a sharp increase in SOS Médecins calls for bronchiolitis in week 11 compared to the previous week. Emergency room visits and RSV isolations remained at high levels.
