Effective Interventions for Preventing Early and Unwanted Pregnancies Through Contraception: A Review of the Evidence - Key Findings.
This document is a summary of the report *Validated Interventions for the Prevention of Early and Unwanted Pregnancies Through Contraception*, produced by INPES. The purpose of this summary is to provide public health officials and frontline professionals with an overview of interventions whose effectiveness has been validated through scientific protocols. To ensure effectiveness and rigor, this review was conducted using a method developed at INPES in 2010 to select and analyze scientific literature in order to identify relevant interventions and classify them. Approximately twenty interventions are identified here as having an impact on the prevention of early and unwanted pregnancies. The vast majority are aimed at adolescents, though some are mixed-age or target adults. Most are unimodal, focusing on a specific setting, a particular method, or a specific objective. A few, however, combine multiple modalities and can be implemented in school settings, medical settings, or involve family members and/or the community, etc. Still others are centered on skills development. Familiarity with these intervention approaches, which are widely used internationally, should enrich the discussion regarding practices developed in France.
