Key Points

  • Nationally, a moderate excess of deaths was noted in week 29 (July 19–25), specifically among adults aged 65–84 and in the regions of Brittany, Normandy, Centre-Val de Loire, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Death rates at the national level and in these regions returned to within the usual range of fluctuation in week 30.

  • In week 30 (July 26–August 1), an excess of deaths from all causes was observed in Martinique. An increase in the number of deaths in Martinique was also observed in the electronic death certificate data for week 30, which continued more markedly in week 31.
