Key Points

In Week 25 (June 20–26, 2022), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups except for children under 2 years of age (up 9%, or 1,886 visits, and up 7%, or 209 hospitalizations, respectively).

For the fourth consecutive week, Week 25 saw an increase in visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups (5,866 vs. 4,098 visits, or +43% vs. +54% in Week 24). This increase applies to all age groups: +58% among children (or +280 visits) and +41% among adults (+1,488 visits). The share of activity across all age groups is slightly up (1.7% vs. 1.2% in Week 24), and the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit is slightly down (30% vs. 33% in Week 24). The increase is observed in all regions except Mayotte. The largest increases were observed in Pays de Loire (+71%), Corsica (+67%), PACA (+55%), and Hauts-de-France (+58%).

Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 810,743 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded. Among other indicators, linked to the drop in temperatures, there has been a decrease in visits for hyperthermia and heatstroke (-75%: 191 visits in Week 25 vs. 753 in Week 24) and dehydration (-24%, or 142 fewer visits).

In addition, there was a slight increase in visits for allergies and infectious conjunctivitis across all age groups (+11% and +13%, respectively), for isolated fever and bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (+11% and +14%, respectively), and for chickenpox in children aged 2–14 years (+20%). Among adults, there was an increase in visits for asthma (+17%) and ENT infections (+11%) among those aged 15–74, and for abdominal pain among those aged 75 and older (+15%).
