Key Points

  • In Week 40 (September 30 to October 6, 2024), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups, except for hospitalizations following visits among children under 2 years of age, which rose slightly (+4%, or +110 hospitalizations).

  • Continuing the trend from the previous week, the main respiratory indicators remain stable (influenza/flu-like illness) or are declining: pertussis (-28% among children), which remains at a high level across all age groups; suspected COVID-19 (-16% across all age groups); and asthma attacks (-10% across all age groups), which remain at a high level among adults. Indicators showing an increase include pneumonia in children under 2 and those aged 75 and older (up 26% and 11%, respectively, or 33 and 250 visits) and acute bronchitis in those aged 75 and older (up 14%, or 47 visits), at a higher level than in previous years.

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for vomiting among children aged 2–14 (+6%, or +41 visits).
