Summary

  • In week 51 (December 14–20, 2020), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable among children and increased by 4.2% among adults.

  • In Week 51, after five weeks of decline and one week of stabilization, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups rose slightly, with 2,302 procedures recorded (vs. 2,203 in Week 50, a 4.5% increase). The share of total activity across all age groups stands at 2.0% (vs. 1.8% in week 50). This increase applies to children (+14.3%, or +42 cases) and, to a lesser extent, adults aged 15–74 (+3%, or +52 cases). Suspected COVID-19 is the fourth most common diagnosis among those aged 15–74 and the seventh most common among those aged 2–14.

  • By region, an increase in medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 is observed in more than half of the regions: Corsica (+86%, or +6 procedures), Brittany (+66%, or +47 procedures), Occitanie (+40%, or +29 procedures), Pays de la Loire (+28%, or +24 procedures), Normandy (+5%, or +14 procedures), Hauts-de-France (+14%, or +28 procedures), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+11%, or +25 procedures). The other regions are stable or declining. Since the start of surveillance, 158,217 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

  • Among other conditions, there has been an increase in seasonal illnesses, particularly bronchitis (+18%, or +118 cases) and ENT conditions (+6.6%, or +525 cases) in children, and gastroenteritis (+6%, or +114 cases) in adults. Also noteworthy is the increase in cases of isolated fever across all age groups (+13%, or +131 cases), chickenpox in children under 2 years of age (+53%, or +31 cases), urinary tract infections in those aged 15–74 (+14%, or +204 cases), and trauma/falls in those aged 75 and older (up 8% and 11%, respectively, or +38 and +25 cases). Finally, among adults, cases of anxiety are on the rise (+13%, or +151 cases) and constitute the 9th most common diagnosis.
