Summary

In Week 05 (February 1–7, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased (for the fourth consecutive week) among children (+7%, or 1,578 procedures), rose moderately among those aged 15–74 (+3%, or 1,175 procedures), and remained stable among those aged 75 and older.

In Week 05, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups remained stable, with 2,951 procedures recorded (vs. 2,955 in Week 04), accounting for 4.3% of total activity across all age groups (vs. 4.4% in Week 04). There was an increase in procedures among those aged 2–14 (+9%, or +44 procedures), stability among those aged 15–74, and a decrease among those under 2 years old (-32%, or -12 procedures) and those aged 75 and older (-9%, or -17 procedures). Suspected COVID-19 is the fifth most common diagnosis among children and the fourth among adults. Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in Corsica (+56%, or +15 procedures), Brittany (+47%, or +37 procedures), Hauts-de-France (+35%, or +99 procedures), and Île-de-France (+10%, or +47 procedures), and remain stable or are declining in other regions. Since the start of surveillance, 176,956 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among seasonal conditions, there has been a slight increase in procedures for ENT conditions (+6%, or +691 procedures) in children, more pronounced for bronchiolitis (+31%, or +67 cases) and conjunctivitis (+37%, or +43 cases) among children under 2 years of age, and for chickenpox (+66%, or +152 cases) and isolated fever (+24%, or +97 cases) among children aged 2–14. Among adults, there was an increase in visits for gastroenteritis (+12%, or +268 visits) among those aged 15–74. Finally, among small patient populations, there was an increase in visits for anxiety (+14%, or +24 visits), falls (+8%, or +15 visits), and heart failure (+8%, or +15 visits) among those aged 75 and older.
