Key Points

  • In week 39 (September 26 to October 2, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among those aged 75 and older (+7%, or +406 visits) and, to a lesser extent, among children under 2 years of age (+5%, or +303 visits).

  • Among seasonal respiratory indicators, we note an increase across all age groups in cases of pneumonia (+24%, or +126 cases), bronchitis (+18%, or +763 cases), and influenza/flu-like illness (+19%, or +250 cases, very early in the season).

  • Among adults, the increase in cases for suspected COVID-19 (+8% among those aged 15–74 and +35% among those aged 75 and older), asthma (+18%, or +122 cases), and ENT conditions (+9%, or +1,279 cases) continues. There was also an increase in cases for cardiac conditions (+20%, or 27 cases) and isolated fever (+26%, or 19 cases) among those aged 75 and older.

  • Among children under 2 years of age, most of the main diagnoses seen by SOS Médecins are on the rise, notably bronchiolitis (+28%, or +66 cases), with a trend comparable to that of last season but occurring earlier than in previous years.

  • Among other indicators, there was an increase in cases of infectious conjunctivitis among those under 15 years of age (+23%, or +119 cases) and among those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +19 cases), with levels higher than in previous years.

  • After three consecutive weeks of increases, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups have stabilized (3,797 procedures vs. 3,660 recorded in Week 38, representing a 4% increase vs. 18% in Week 38).
