Tobacco Info Service (0825 309 310 - €0.15/min): analysis of calls received between December 2003 and March 2004.
In December 2003, there were 1.8 million fewer smokers in France than at the end of 1999. Overall, quitting smoking is becoming increasingly common. In any case, this is the goal of 71%¹ of regular smokers. While not all of these individuals need follow-up care at a smoking cessation clinic or medication, many of them could benefit from support to better cope with the challenges of quitting and thus avoid relapsing. The telephone can therefore serve as a support tool accessible to the widest possible audience: you pick up the phone and immediately gain access to expertise, support, and answers to your questions. At a time when smoking cessation clinics are overwhelmed with requests, INPES offers smokers a telephone service that can assist them in their efforts to quit. [article excerpt]
