The Epidemiology of Tuberculosis in France During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Introduction – France is a country with a low incidence of tuberculosis, having seen an average annual decline of nearly 5% over the past half-century. This steady trend has, however, been occasionally interrupted by more pronounced fluctuations linked to external events. We analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the epidemiology of tuberculosis. Materials and Methods – Cases of active tuberculosis reported in France in 2022 through the mandatory reporting system (DO) are described. Treatment outcomes for cases reported in 2021 are analyzed. Case numbers, reporting rates, and the percentage of cases that completed treatment are compared before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
