A lack of security is a factor that contributes to drug addiction.

Interview with Jean-Pol Tassi. Contrary to popular belief, pleasure is not the primary factor in drug addiction. It is the decoupling of two neurobiological systems that is believed to be the root cause of addiction. Life history and insecurity largely explain vulnerability to this decoupling phenomenon. Other factors contributing to addiction exist: regular use, but also early-onset use. For Jean-Pol Tassi, who has been recognized for his work on the neurobiological origins of addictive processes, these new findings call for a reevaluation of strategies for the prevention and treatment of drug users.
