Stigma and therapeutic patient education.
The goal of therapeutic education is to improve the quality of life for patients with chronic conditions by taking their expectations and needs into account. Paradoxically, as the author—a public health physician—explains, this education can be stigmatizing, starting from the moment the patient is enrolled in a program. Appropriate training and the adoption of a genuinely educational approach by healthcare professionals can help avoid this pitfall.
