Survival of Cancer Patients in Metropolitan France, 1989–2018 – Esophageal Adenocarcinomas

In France, in 2018, the estimated number of new cases of esophageal adenocarcinoma was 2,074, accounting for 38% of all esophageal cancers. The estimated number of deaths from esophageal cancer across all histological types was 3,725. Key points: 5-year age-standardized net survival of 20% for cases diagnosed between 2010 and 2015; 10-percentage-point improvement in 5-year age-standardized net survival between 1990 and 2015, most pronounced in the most recent period (7 points between 2005 and 2015); Among 50-year-olds diagnosed between 1990 and 2015, net survival improved by 23 percentage points at 1 year, 16 percentage points at 5 years, and 9 percentage points at 10 years; Among people aged 80 diagnosed between 1990 and 2015, net survival improved by 16 percentage points at 1 year, 5 points at 5 years, and 1 point at 10 years.
