A Contribution to the Study of Therapeutic Education for Asthma Patients: The Impact of an Educational Intervention on Treatment Adherence, Psychological Adjustment, and Quality of Life in 43 Participants Followed Over 18 Months.

Patient education for people with asthma is part of best medical practice guidelines, but its impact remains poorly understood. This thesis reports on a study aimed at evaluating the effect of such an intervention. The study involved 76 asthma patients divided into an experimental group (EG, n=43) and a control group (CG, n=33). Members of the EG participated in four group therapeutic education sessions, while members of the control group received “traditional” follow-up care. The results of this study highlight the positive impact of the educational approach on the quality of life of asthma patients as well as on how they perceive and manage their condition. A structured educational model emerges that has been evaluated and can be adopted by healthcare professionals.
