Key Points

Bronchiolitis

• Epidemic on the decline.

• Bronchiolitis-related activity remains at a post-epidemic level in Week 5: 8.6% (vs. 8.8% in Week 4) of emergency department visits; 3.2% (vs. 4.8%) of SOS Médecins calls. Activity is lower than in the previous two winters.

• The rate of bronchiolitis hospitalizations among all coded hospitalizations decreased this week (20% vs. 24% in Week 1).

• There is a downward trend in RSV circulation in community laboratories (6.0% in Week 5 vs. 7.8% in Week 1) as well as in hospitals (4.7% in Week 5 vs. 5.1% in Week 1 - see).

Influenza

• 9th week of the epidemic.

• Influenza-related activity is beginning to decline among emergency department visits in Week 5, with 5.9% of cases attributed to influenza (vs. 6.6% in Week 1), as is the rate of influenza-related hospitalizations among all coded hospitalizations (3.8% vs. 5.3% in Week 1). This trend is also observed among those under 15 years of age, with 526 cases and 12.0% of flu (vs. 587 and 13.3% in Week 1).

• Activity is also declining in private practice: 24.0% (vs. 30.2% in S-1) among SOS Médecins cases in S05; 479 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants for Sentinelles+IQVIA in S05 (vs. 504 in S-1). This decline also applies to those under 15 years of age.

• Viral circulation in community laboratories remains stable at a high level (38% in W05 vs. 37.6% in W-1), with a downward trend in hospitals (20.2% in W05 vs. 21.6% in W-1) (see pages 6 and 7).

• Since week 40-2024, 67 severe cases of influenza (all ages) have been reported by the sentinel intensive care unit network. Among them, 61% were men, 55% were 65 years of age or older, 94% had at least one comorbidity, 97% tested positive for influenza A and 3% for influenza B (1 case was reported as “influenza, unspecified” and 2 were untyped), and 17% died (9 cases out of 53 for which information is available).

COVID-19

• Low activity.

• The SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to circulate at low levels in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (see pages 6 and 7), as in other regions.

• The proportion of cases handled by SOS Médecins and emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 remains low.
